Ever since my teenage years, music has played a central role in my life. I started my music industry career with a marketing management internship at a Dutch chain of record stores. Travelling across the country, I spent a lot of my time talking to record store owners and even more to their customers. Best internship I could have thought of! Back then, vinyl sales were pretty much non-existent. Sadly, that music chain no longer exists, but vinyl came back, and how! Eight years ago, I got the opportunity to run Record Store Day in the Netherlands. Throughout these turbulent years, I have had the pleasure of working on this and various RSD related projects such as Indie Only Releases (exclusive releases only available at RSD-stores throughout the year), RSD Black Friday, retail meetings, a special – Vinyl 33 - vinyl chart, a weekly podcast Vinyl Friday with NPO Radio 2 DJ Wouter van der Goes, and most recently even our own label, RSD Records. Thanks to the RSD-stores and our small, but always hardworking and dedicated team, we turned this up-and-coming event into a national phenomenon celebrated in over 100 independent record stores. Without a doubt, the best development I have witnessed in recent years is a younger audience finally embracing vinyl and record stores again. This certainly made our latest RSD-edition – the 14th – the most successful edition so far. Looking forward to our 15th-anniversary edition!
